Habit Burger is the best burger in America.
Consumer Reports named the little-known, Southern California based burger chain the best tasting burger in the United States, beating out their more popular peers like In ‘N Out and Five Guys.
Founded by two brothers from Santa Barbara in 1969, Habit Burger has gone from a mom-and-pop shop (literally, since their mom lent them the money to open the joint) to a chain with more than 100 stores across the U.S.
Known for its simplistic yet fresh and delicious “Charburger,” Habit likes to keep it classic – and this classic burger is their pride and joy. As stated on Habit Burger’s website:
“One bite of a Charburger will transport you to a place where cool ocean breezes sweep gently through majestic green palm fronds, and a time when two enterprising young brothers established what it means to respect the burger.”
Now that is faith in your product.
Aside from great food, Habit Burger believes in great community service. Last year they donated more than $100,000 (and tens of thousands of Charburgers) to various schools, organizations, food banks and charities, including the Boys and Girls Club, American Cancer Society and The March of Dimes. They are incredibly active in the local communities, raising money for schools and parks in Southern California. They have a “Certificate of Achievement” program for elementary schools, rewarding students who are thriving both academically and community-wide (and the kids get free meals with their awards!).
Their countrywide expansion began in 2007 when private equity firm KarpReilly LLC invested in the burger joint, and the success is outstanding. By 2013 Habit had crossed state lines into Arizona and Utah. According to Nation’s Restaurant News, new locations are set to open in Las Vegas, Seattle and New Jersey later this year.
