Vox Media, owner of The Verge and many other successful websites and publications, is acquiring Revere Digital, owner of technology news website Re/code, according to Reuters and a post on Re/code’s website.

Some of Vox Media’s influential assets include:

  • Sports news website SB Nation
  • The Verge
  • Gaming publication Polygon
  • Vox.com
  • Eater—a place for people who care about dining and drinking in the most important food cities across the US
  • Racked—a clothing and fashion publication
  • Curbed—a publication that covers real estate, interior design, architecture

Vox can now add Re/code to their list.

In part, Vox Media has achieved such quick success due to smart investments, an innovative approach, high strategic partnerships, and smart acquisitions, like with Re/code.

Among these partnerships is a strategic deal struck with global growth equity firm General Atlantic in late 2014. This partnership took the form of investment by General Atlantic to acquire a minority stake of Vox.

“We believe Vox Media represents one of the most attractive opportunities for capitalizing on a clear and important secular trend that is still in its early innings: the generational shift in news, entertainment, and content distribution and consumption driven by global social connectivity and increasing smartphone penetration,” said Anton Levy. “Vox Media’s CEO, Jim Bankoff, is not only one of the foremost minds in digital media, he is also a business builder, and we are proud and excited to partner with him and his talented team.”

Both parties appear to be in good spirits about Vox’s new partnership. In fact, Re/code believes that their joining Vox Media is the next big step in their mission to bring their readers high quality tech journalism.

“We want to assure you that this combination is designed to bolster and enrich Re/code and that we will continue to publish under the same name and leadership, with editorial independence,” said Re/code journalists Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher.
