“You need to laugh more. No really, you do. You need to smile more, too.” ~Chandra Clarke
The age of the internet has created a vast playground for busy minds. Today’s entrepreneurs all seem to be in a contest for World’s Busiest Person, and Chandra Clarke is no exception. With a Bachelor’s in English and Master of Science in Space Exploration, Chandra is also an award winning entrepreneur and writer. At age 25, she and her husband founded Scribendi.com, an online proofreading and editing company that makes it easy and affordable for bloggers, students and professionals have their work edited.
Scribendi began in 1997, well before the peak of the Dot Com boom and has survived the ups and downs of the economy since. The company now supports over 200 highly educated editors, with hundreds of thousands of customers in 223 countries. Scribendi differentiates itself by using a strict Quality Assurance program, and stresses the highly qualified team of editors that produce edited documents. The company works by charging users a few cents per word for editing services, and even has a WordPress plugin that lets users submit blog posts and site content for editing inside the admin panel. Even after over 15 years in business, Scribendi ranked on Canada’s Profit 500 list of fastest growing Canadian companies in 2013.
In addition to running Scribendi, Chandra Clarke also runs the website CitizenScienceCenter, which is dedicated to connecting people with scientific projects. CitizenScience won a 2013 Webby award from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Clarke also manages a weekly humor blog at Chandrakclarke.com, which claims she is a mother of three preparing to get her Ph.D. She is a passionate advocate for science and space, and is the author of several books and numerous articles.
