Better known for her job as a Hollywood actress, Jessica Alba has a lesser-known but still successful second career—entrepreneur. A self-proclaimed liberal and feminist (who grew up in a conservative Catholic family), Alba first began acting at the age of 11, with her first film debut in Camp Nowhere in 1994 and dozens of roes since then.

In 2012, Jessica Alba and her business partner Chris Gavigan launched The Honest Company, which sells toxin-free, eco-friendly, affordable, and accessible household goods. Alba and Gavigan started the company after becoming frustrated as parents trying to find the best and safest products for their children and homes.

“Being a mom is the most profound experience I’ve ever had,” Alba says. “I created the Honest Company to help moms and to give all children a better, safer start.”

Gavigan adds, “Parents get a lot of advice about what to feed their children and how to baby-proof their home, but many are still completely unaware of the toxic risks posed by everyday basics, like diapers, home cleaners, body washes, and laundry soaps. Yet, there’s growing consensus that some chemicals used in these products are linked to chronic diseases like asthma, ADHD, and even cancer.”

Gavigan is a father of three, while Alba has two daughters. While still acting on a regular basis and being a mother, Alba has somehow managed to found and help run a successful company. She also released a book this year, The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You, which shares tips and strategies for living a healthier, safer, more environmentally friendly family life (while still being stylish, of course).
