“We’re creating a network of support. Together, we can help spark a revitalization of US-based manufacturing, using new technology and new innovations to make production in the United States affordable and feasible.”
Rosalind Brewer is one of the world’s most powerful women. As President and CEO of Sam’s Club, a revenue division of Wal-Mart, Brewer has used her leadership positions to bring more technology and innovation to the members-only warehouse club. Last year, the company brought in revenues of $56 billion.
Brewer graduated from Spelman College with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, later going on to attend the advanced management program at The Wharton School. She also graduated from Director’s College at the University of Chicago School of Business/Stanford School of Law.
Beginning her career as a scientist at Kimberly-Clark Corp, Rosalind Brewer spent 22 years working her way up through the ranks, eventually becoming president of the Global Nonwovens Sector in 2004.
In 2006, Brewer was hired at Wal-Mart as regional vice president, where she oversaw operations in Georgia. She quickly advanced her career there, becoming division president of the Southeast and, eventually, president of Walmart East. In 2012, she joined Sam’s Club.
Rosalind Brewer is described as “a high-impact strategist” that focuses on revenue growth and customer satisfaction, and she is “known for building strong teams, inspiring mentoring networks, and having a passion for improving communities.”
Brewer’s rise to leadership can serve as inspiration for any woman that envisions a similar future. As a woman who began her career as a chemist, her story shows us that with ambition and drive, anything is attainable.
