The real estate database company Zillow, based in Seattle, has announced a $50 million purchase of StreetEasy. StreetEasy is an apartment data website that helps New Yorkers find the best rates and housing in their area. This is their seventh acquisition, and its largest yet.
The announcement also said that the company will be selling additional stock, as will founder of Zillow, Rich Barton, to the marketplace to raise working capital. Barton cofounded Zillow in 2005 after founding travel site Expedia, and currently sits on the board for eight technology companies.
